Hair Loss vs Hair Shedding
It’s safe to say you or someone you know may have recently experienced Stress either Medically, emotionally or both.
Are you experiencing hair loss or a typical shed?
What’s the difference?
Hair Loss
aka Telogen Effluvium
may be experienced after a stressful event.
Telogen Effluvium is typically experienced 1-4 months after an event, causing some of the resting hairs in your follicles to be pushed out prematurely by the new growth below inside the follicle.
After several months of the loss your hair will gradually return to its natural state.
In most cases Telogen Effluvium is a self correcting condition but the following are recommended:
Handle your hair gently- brush/comb softly, only slow non-rigorous massaging at scalp
See your physician to rule out and address any scalp irritations or disorders, abnormality in thyroid function, or levels of iron, vitamin B12 and folic acid.
Hair Shed
fact: on average humans shed 50-100 hairs a day
It seems like a lot but typically humans have 3 types of hair on their head at all times.
Hair growing - typically 2-6 years process (Anagen Stage)
Hair in a resting state - typically 3 week process (Catagen Stage)
Hair ready to shed - typically 3 month process (Telogen Stage)
Each hair on your head completes this process beginning to end unless a trauma happens to the hair or follicle.
Healthy Scalp = gorgeous hair
Brush from scalp to ends daily
Wash, Rinse, REPEAT. really! Wash twice to fully cleanse your scalp especially if you live on dry shampoo and texture spray
Massage your scalp gently while shampooing
Comb in the shower starting at your ends and working up to your scalp with a wide tooth comb while conditioning
Limit Dry Shampoo use to 1 day between shampooing
Instead of a tightly worn bun or pony put your hair up loosely and take down to brush daily
Braids are a perfect style for sleeping or under a hat/beanie to avoid pulling at the scalp
Don’t be alarmed when you’ve left your hair in a bun for a day or two and you experience a large shed- the hair that would’ve shed unnoticeably was stuck in your bun.
Be sure to detox your scalp, a healthy scalp environment is the key to hair growth. We recommend Eufora Urgent Repair Treatment as a scalp treatment once a week.
Be sure to consult your physician if you feel that you’re experiencing a more than average shed.
